The UnMASCK Study (Unobtrusive Monitoring of Affective Symptoms and Cognition using Keyboard Dynamics)
Welcome to the Computational Neuroimaging and Connected Technologies (CoNeCT) Lab webpage for the UnMASCK study. We are located in Chicago, IL as part of the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Psychiatry.
This study will use smartphone technology (“BiAffect”) that uses typing patterns (such as typing speed and typing errors) to monitor mood and thinking patterns. BiAffect will be studied to see if it can predict altered brain connections. Typing patterns are being observed in participants both with and without mood disorders.
You may be a good fit for this study if:
You are between the ages of 25-50 years old.
You are feeling depressed or experiencing frequent changes in mood OR you are healthy.
You are able to complete an MRI scan and have no metal in your body.
You have a smartphone.
This study will involve 3 visits (2 hours each) over the span of 4 weeks. Your participation will involve:
A clinical interview.
Downloading and using an application on your smartphone, BiAffect, that monitors typing behaviors (such as typing speed, backspace usage, and autocorrect) not what words you type.
2 MRI brain scans.
Questionnaires and activities involving memory and concentration.
